The need for our communities to become more globally competitive as well as more equipped to support a digitally empowered workforce has never been greater. Gig.U and Gigabit Squared (GB2) recognize the power of our communities leading the way to growth and innovation through a gigabit speed, digital economy. GB2 and Gig.U are poised to give a number of our communities a boost towards global competitiveness through gigabit broadband.
Gig.U supports GB2 and its assembled technology partners as the organization to lead these initiatives because of their proven leadership in forging public/private partnerships, proficiency with broadband networks, and ability to, develop scalable, self-sustaining community networks.
At a time when real innovation and job creation are needed in the U.S., it’s no secret that both seem to be in short supply. GB2 has a plan, the team and the access to resources to drive innovation in Gig.U communities and create a platform for innovation and job creation through the development of gigabit–high speed broadband networks.
GB2’s principals and partners have the expertise to engage with universities and communities to develop broadband initiatives. They have a real understanding of the powerful connection between Universities and communities and how that connection can foster innovation centers in our communities. GB2’s principals and team members been developing, honing, and proving our strategies for years. With a tried and tested methodology in place, with the right team assembled and market tested programs, with the right stakeholders GB2 is poised to perform together. GB2 is thrilled that we’re ready for repeatable success. Our principals and executive team together have more than 100 years of leadership in all aspects of this GNGP program including communications, IT, public/private partnerships, economic development, community engagement and real estate development.
GB2’s principals and team members have guided numerous initiatives, including efforts in Miami, Cleveland, Chattanooga, Lafayette and Detroit.
The private sector will provide the financing for the new deployment, but the RFP calls for the community to take a number of steps that reduce expenditures and risk–without spending taxpayer money–that makes an upgrade possible. Further, we have developed relationships with investors excited about financing this initiative.
Creating a fiber network is extremely expensive, no matter who does it. It’s Gigabit Squared’s unique business model that has a foundation in an aggregation of demand, and enablement of hidden potential. We find that traditional carriers often join in the initiative when it has begun.
We see past the conventional line of thinking. We’re championing both what’s now… and what’s possible. Fully competitive Broadband speeds are in the gigabit per second range in both directions, hence Squared.
Generally, a public/private partnership is an agreement between a governmental entity and a private sector party whereby the private sector provides a service, infrastructure or facility used by the general public with a corresponding sharing of risk and reward. Each P3 is unique with the public sector bringing to the table their particular circumstance, needs, assets and applications. As the private sector solution is applied across Gig.U members and their communities it is as different as their circumstances. Collectively, the wide range of Gig.U communities and geographic diversity points out the need for new thinking and a blend of public and private expertise.
There are lots of companies capable of deploying fiber optic cable. But unlocking the value of fiber comes from meaningful use of that fiber. That comes from our process of creative engagement of an engaged, learning, growing and empowered set of users. So the optimal approach is to both upgrade the infrastructure with fiber AND further enable the community through social connections, new and better services, more creativity and higher levels of global competitiveness, Our approach is to provide the underlying social infrastructure that means gigabit broadband extended to empower new services, new systems, and engaged members of Gig.U communities. Social infrastructure includes health, education, and public safety in our communities—real time with real value. That is what GB2 does in community and in partnership with Gig.U.
